Wing Lai
Principal Landscape Architect
Wing has 16 years experience within the built environment and landscape architecture sector both on an execution basis and in the context of strategic leadership within the sector at national level, with 11 years of institutional governance committee experience for the Landscape Institute (LI). Alongside his landscape practitioner role as a design and construction professional, Wing was directly involved with various advisory boards, design awards panels, board recruitment committees and as an emerging thought leader within the sector at national level. Recently awarded the title of Fellow at the Landscape Institute (FLI) in 2023 and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) in 2023 for exemplary contributions to the UK landscape industry through governance and influence. The award of LI fellowship is only given to those who have provided special contributions, innovation or exemplary leadership which provide a positive legacy for the UK landscape industry at national level. He is a rare young FLI title holder, which demonstrates his exemplary skillset in relation to strategy and ability to navigate the needs of different stakeholders. FLI holders are typically honorary members or past presidents of the landscape industry sector, and therefore he holds a unique value preposition as a young millennial generation professional and ethnic minority.
Wing has a background in large scale overseas and UK design and construction projects which required a strategic and oversight mindset in terms of complexed projects, collaborative team engagement, multidisciplinary working, stakeholder needs, due diligence quality reviews, and project management. Beyond his industry sector, he is well versed in the understanding of wider sectors such as ecology, environment, sustainability, engineering and many others in the built environment sector alongside his institutional governance experience.
